United Way announces launch of 2006 Campaign
FORT ATKINSON, WI –July 31, 2006 –The United Way of
Jefferson and North Walworth Counties, announces that the organization
will be “launching” its 2006 Campaign on Saturday August
26, 200 at 12:00 Noon along the Fort Atkinson River Walk with a
cardboard boat race on the Rock River. A free community lunch including
a hot dog, chips and beverage will be provided to the first 200
spectators.
“The Cardboard Cup boat race has grown the over the past
three years and has proven to be a fun, event that brings people
together and raises awareness about our local United Way,” said
Todd Tesch, United Way board chair.
Boats powered by one or two crew members and made entirely of
cardboard will race a straight a 150 yard course on the Rock River.
Participants will be launching their cardboard boats from the edge
of Fort Atkinson River Walk just to the West of the Legion Dugout.
Boats will be timed and compete for first, second and third place
trophies as well as a trophy for the “wonder that went down
under.” There will also be a trophy awarded for the best
decorated cardboard boat.
“Our United Way is really excited about this family event
and looks forward to involving people from throughout our community.
Individuals and teams are encouraged to enter the race,” said
Dan McCrea, United Way’s executive director.
A complete registration packet that includes tips on cardboard
boat building and construction, race rules, waiver and registration
forms are available by calling the United Way office at 920.568.8880.
Due to safety requirements, advance registration is required. Tee
shirts will also be available to those individuals and teams who
enter the race.
The United Way of Jefferson and North Walworth Counties partners
with over 32 health and human service agencies that provide local
services throughout the communities of Fort Atkinson, Jefferson,
Lake Mills, Palmyra, Sullivan and Whitewater; United Way - investing
